Groovy Beer and A Movie

Movies and beer go amazingly well together. In some cases, drinking enough beer can make a movie which would otherwise be a steaming pile of cow dung, absolute poetry. In other cases, though, finding the perfect beer that compliments a film can help shed new light on it by allowing not only your senses of sight and sound to experience it, but your sense of taste as well. Having had this epiphany, I thought it only prudent to share my vast knowledge of brews and movies through a beer and movie pairing.

Interpreting Mr. Banks

Released this past Christmas, Saving Mr. Banks has already established itself as another Disney triumph, earning an Oscar nomination, a Golden Globe and SAG nomination for Emma Thompson, and over $77 million in the box office (so far). You’ll get no argument from me on the quality of this film: the cast was impeccable, the score was lovely, and the dripping sentiment for Disney’s Mary Poppins rings true for those of us that grew up with Disney as being the most culturally significant production company of our formative years.

An Experiment in Black and White

About a month ago, a friend of mine sent me a curious text message out of the blue. It said:

“Watch The Fifth Element in black and white. It changes everything.”

My mind was subsequently blown. I asked him what the big difference was and he told me that it made was more like a classic B movie, and it changed the whole approach of the movie.
